PT: Ana Matilde Sousa é artista visual e investigadora, nascida em Lisboa. Em 2012, cofundou o selo de zines Clube do Inferno e começou a criar “art comics” com influência do mangá sob o pseudónimo Hetamoé. Os seus trabalhos foram apresentados por editoras de banda desenhada alternativa e outros espaços, tanto em Portugal como internacionalmente, incluindo Europa, Canadá, Austrália e Hong Kong. Em 2020, cofundou o coletivo artístico MASSACRE e tem vindo a interessar-se por temas como história, ciência e tecnologia, o Antropocénico e metodologias de practice-based research nas artes visuais.
No âmbito académico, apresenta e publica artigos sobre arte contemporânea e cultura pop japonesa, assim como outros temas relacionados com a investigação artística, em salas de aula, revistas académicas e conferências internacionais. Os seus textos foram incluídos em livros de editoras como a Routledge e a University of Minnesota Press. Doutorada em Pintura pela Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, trabalha atualmente como Investigadora FCT Júnior no CIEBA, com o projeto “PLOT AGAINST. A painting-based research project into the pen plotter and other peripheral devices in the cyborgian imagination” e também leciona na Licenciatura em Pintura da FBAUL.
EN: Ana Matilde Sousa is a visual artist and researcher born in Lisbon. In 2012, she co-founded the zine label Clube do Inferno and began creating art comics influenced by manga under the pseudonym Hetamoé. Her work has been presented by alternative comics publishers and other venues, both in Portugal and internationally, including Europe, Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong. In 2020, she co-founded the art collective MASSACRE and has since developed an interest in themes such as history, science and technology, the Anthropocenic, and practice-based research methodologies in the visual arts.
In the academic sphere, she presents and publishes on contemporary art and Japanese pop culture, as well as other topics related to artistic research, in classrooms, academic journals, and international conferences. Her texts have been included in books from publishers such as Routledge and the University of Minnesota Press. She holds a PhD in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon and currently works as a Junior FCT Researcher at CIEBA on the project “PLOT AGAINST. A painting-based research project into the pen plotter and other peripheral devices in the cyborgian imagination,” while also teaching in the Painting BA programme at FBAUL.
