Sofía Balbontín

Sofía Balbontín is an architect and transdisciplinary researcher based in Valparaíso. She holds a PhD in Art Studies from the University of Lisbon and is an associate researcher at the Centro de Investigação e de Estudos em Belas-Artes (CIEBA) at the University of Lisbon and at the NLC Núcleo de Lenguaje y Creación at Universidad de las Américas (UDLA), Chile, where she also serves as a lecturer in the School of Architecture. She is co-founder of the project Espacios Resonantes, which explores the acoustics and soundscapes of modern industrial heritage, and director of the Festival of Architecture and Listening: Espacios Resonantes. Her work focuses on the interaction between sound and space, developing experimental proposals around critical spatial practices, sound ecology, urban aurality, vibrational communication, speculative futures, and sonic activism, challenging human-centered perceptions of sound and the environment.
